GUARDIAN INFORMATION
Guardian Training is scheduled for Sunday, July 18, 2010 from 1:00 - 3:00 (or so) at the Maumee Fire Station on Illinois Ave in Maumee.
Guardians must be in good health, be able to lift 50#, push and pull wheelchairs on and off buses and be able to push a wheelchair around all day, possibly in very high heat and humidity with up to a 295# veteran in it. They must also be able to bend over to tie shoes or pick up items for veterans and must have no difficulty twisting in order to help veterans in and out of wheelchairs throughout the day. A three and a half hour training session is mandatory prior to the flight. Our guardians must be responsible, respectful, kind, considerate, enthusiastic and patient! Applying as a guardian does not guarantee you will have the opportunity to fly with us as is noted on our guardian applications.
Guardians pay their way on the day long trip and receive the same accommodations as the Veteran. $400.00 is a small price to pay to share in the joy and comradery that our veterans so deserve on their journey. During the trip you will make a new friend or two, brighten the smile, and re-invigorate a hero. Many have said that the memorials are a fountain of youth for our veterans. Having first hand experience, this webmaster couldn't agree more!
IMPORTANT: Guardian Fees are payable by cash, check or money order the day of training before the flight. Thereafter by check or money order only. DO NOT send guardian fees in with your application unless specifically told to do so.
To get started, download a Guardian Application here and mail it to the address on the form. We will contact you in the near future for training and additional information. |
